Gene Sparling offers three decades of diverse architectural experience, including expertise in designing for resiliency and sustainability. Mr. Sparling has led all phases of architectural service delivery across a broad range of building and construction types for public, institutional, and private clients. His experience comprises new construction, renovations, historic structures, and tenant improvements. He has successfully managed the public approvals process for projects with numerous review boards. Recent experience includes serving as Project Manager for CUNY Baruch College’s Lawrence and Eris Field Building at 17 Lexington Avenue, a historic 16-story, 285,000 sf mixed-use, academic building, to house laboratories, lecture halls, and classrooms; and serving as Senior Technical Architect (in association with the Renzo Piano Building Workshop) on Columbia University’s Lenfest Center for the Arts, a 60,000 sf building housing a state of the art 150-seat film screening room and a 120-seat flexible performance “black box” theater as well as the Wallach Art Gallery and event space.
Mr. Sparling also led Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History & Culture in advance of final document submission. His extensive knowledge, technical expertise, sensitivity to project history and context, and steady leadership has been integral to the to the successful completion of many of the firm’s most notable projects.
