Newt Kershner brings over 19 years of diverse experience designing for cultural and institutional clients in New York City and abroad, including the National September 11 Memorial Museum, the Frick Collection’s new Portico Gallery, and the Zero Irving Technology Hub in NYC’s burgeoning “Silicon Alley,” as well as several cultural and transportation projects in Hong Kong, China. Mr. Kershner’s approach to achieving design excellence for all of his projects is through respecting and embracing the range of contexts in which they occur. He designed the Lower Manhattan Cultural Center’s Arts Center for Building 110 on Governors Island, a 14,000 sf visual and performing arts space including flexible galleries dedicated to artistic development and public presentation. The project welcomes local artists, designers, and visitors to the Island’s bucolic setting in the New York Harbor.
Mr. Kershner is currently working with the Irish Arts Center on the design of a new arts and cultural center dedicated to promoting the vibrant image of Ireland and Irish America through performance, exhibition and education. Located on Manhattan’s West Side, the infill building and renovation project will include a new flexible theater, a restored historic theater, associated theater support facilities, rehearsal studio classroom, multi-purpose classroom, exhibit areas, and a café.
